In honor of my mother, who for years used my father’s old tacklebox for her jewels, it’s now my sewing box:

Needle Case

I just wrote a lovely post on my lovely needle case. But it got lost when Firefox crashed and I don’t have the heart to dredge it all up again. Here, to speak for itself, is the DP needle case, from Stitch N Bitch:

The only defense I have, as to why I own 3 pairs of size 7 bamboo DP needles, is because my mother won an eBay bonanza on DPs.Â She sent me a huge amount of DPs.Â Seems to have necessitated its own project, doncha think?

I’m really excited to get this one done so I can start a second one. This time on the right size of needles. This first bag is going to be great for large farmer’s market purchases, like sides of beef.

Well, one of them, anyway. Isn’t it cute? Another mom at drop-off this morning complimented it, without prompting! She said, “It’s a storybook skirt!” The best design detail is the little bow at the waist — the girl’s own idea!

Do NOT tell me my house is a mess.Â I know that.Â I live with that knowledge, every day.Â I’m too busy knitting and sewing to clean, people!

Looky what came in the mail today!

My mom surprised me with the Great American Afghan pattern book! It’s the first book that inspired the Great American Aran Afghan, which my mom has actually done but looks a little too intimidating for me. I wish you could see the squares up-close — they are really beautiful and look like fun, and the squares are only 12×12’s. I’m thinking of using off-white yarn, to simulate the “aran afghan” look.

OK, off to shop for yarns!

One of the first things he said to me this morning was, “You haven’t posted any pictures of your bag.” My response…”huh?” Well it turns out, I’m not the only ‘computer game widow’ who knits. DH (dear husband - he hates that nickname *grin*) was online last night tossing toilets at friends and they started talking about what their better halves were doing while they were plugged into their computers. Knitting was popular answer. He told them about this little blog of ours and so if that’s how you came to be reading this entry, consider yourself welcomed! ok, on to the pictures! Here is the beginning of my bag…doesn’t look like much, does it?

I’m only 2 rows into the mesh pattern and I hope it will become clearer as I get further along. Here’s a detail pic.

I’m hoping that once I get another couple of rounds done I’ll be able to appreciate the mesh pattern better. Right now it just looks like a bunch of holes to me. *grin* Wish me luck!

If I’m going to keep taking pics of this sock creeping up my leg!

You can’t tell but the heel turn (good Freudian — I typed “hell turn”) is gnarly. Difficult, too, but after 3 times ripping it out and examining the instructions in minute detail with Lori on the phone, I think the next one will be prettier.

I’m going all the way up. If there’s anything I hate, it’s a sock that ends anywhere between the ankle and the knee.

Picture me running around like Steve Martin with phone books and you’ll get the picture of how excited I was yesterday. Yes, yesterday. I couldn’t be bothered to post yesterday because I HAD TO KNIT! I’ve got the bottom constructed & am starting my first couple of rounds of the mesh pattern. So far it’s been pretty easy - no real surprises, and easy to keep track of the stitches. The one thing that bothered me at first was the way the yarn was knitting up on such large needles, but I’ve been working with acrylic yarns on smaller needles, so it was really just a matter of me recalibrating what real knitting is like. *grin* No picture yet - I can’t stop knitting long enough to set up a photo shoot!

I’m off to knit some more!

Ooooh, I love these socks from Knitty: Spring 2007 — but oy, size 1 needles! Yikearoni! (FWIW, I didn’t much care for anything else in the current issue. Disappointing!Â And don’t you love the top half of this photo and hate the bottom half?Â I do.)
